WAR GENERATION "HARDCORE LOVE"

His throat isn't sleeved with bat wings and skull tattoos. He doesn't wear the hip new band's coolest shirt design. He's not stage pitting and rehashing moves from CBGBs videos he's watched countless of times on YouTube and he certainly isn't your typical kind of "hard", but his lyrics are 100% more "hard", Hardcore and REAL than 99.9% of band lyrics deemed as Hardcore today.

As a product of the early-90's Hardcore scene (admiring Sense Field and Reason To Believe), we've grown and we've changed immensely over the years but there's no denying the importance of the "shitty records with shitty artwork" we grew up intrigued with — especially now, for those of us still here and intrigued... 20+ years later. This song's lyrics embody that thought and they make my eyes swell with happiness because it's the truest lyrical expression of what the Hardcore scene did/does for me and countless of other kids around the world. Take pride in that feeling, it's a beautiful thing.

In the words of lyricist and War Generation frontman, Jon Bunch;
This song is written as a thank-you to all the hardcore punk bands I grew up listening to. I love and appreciate what they’ve done so much. The people and music from that time helped me through some serious dark times. Back in the early ‘80s most people hated punk rock and thought it was mindless garbage. We got a lot of shit for listening to it. People tend to be afraid of what they don’t understand, and most people didn’t understand that the hardcore punk community had and still has some of the smartest, most creative and most loving people in the world. I learned the importance of thoughtfulness, empathy, caring and love through its music.
Much respect. Support this record and band.

Alone in our rooms yeah we'd listen to records
MDC and 7 Seconds
Schooled us on the rules of the streets yeah
Summer heat and Hardcore beats yeah

Those records vibe and they kept us alive
When we were free to fuck up
Ahead of our time you were always behind
Thought we could never keep up?
It was Hardcore Love running through our blood
But you never knew and you'll never know
The Hardcore Love running through our blood... that's right

No one to listen, we'd put on a record
No one to talk to, we'd put on our records
They're after you, what are you gonna do yeah?
The one thing to turn to get us through yeah

Those records vibe and they kept us alive
When we were free to fuck up
Ahead of our time you were always behind
Thought we could never keep up?
It was Hardcore Love running through our blood
But you never knew and you'll never know
The Hardcore Love running through our blood... that's right

Yeah we were right... right all along
Yeah we were right, yeah you were wrong
Yeah we were right... right all along
Yeah we were right, yeah you were wrong
